About the 01 Festival

One-person shows are all about using your available light. In no other context are writers, directors, designers, and performers so profoundly challenged to create something that is greater than the sum of its few parts. Usually these shows are written by the performers themselves. In these shows, for better or for worse, you get to see the purest expression of individual visions.

All three of these shows debuted on tiny stages, in non-traditional theatre spaces (a coffee house, an apartment building basement, and the office of a Cincinnati non-profit), with 3 or four lights, minimal sound systems, and so little room that a two-person show would have been next to impossible.

This is the first presentation of the Available Light 01 Festival and we're starting simply enough. Three shows we believe in. Three shows that embody the spirit of Available light [theatre]. Three shows that make something out of just about nothing. Three shows that we passionately urge everyone to see.

We hope to continue this tradition next year, and we'll spend the next 12 months looking for 6 people creating work that we feel will be worthy of your attention.
